Helen is a once in a generation series of art projects and programmes of work created by partners Heart of Glass, idle women, and ANU Productions and the women of St Helens. Helen is made possible by Arts Council England’s Ambition for Excellence programme.
Women Labour - idle women are deconstructing and rebuilding.
Since 2017 local women have been learning construction trades and skills.
As part of the ‘deconstruction’ programme, women have taken apart a Land Rover with artist Dina Roncevic, learned how to lock pick, use power tools, bolt cut and dismantle walls.
The next building phase of work beginning in Dec 2018 will establish the first digital Tool Library of its kind developed especially for women in collaboration with Charmian Griffin. The library will consist of women taught DIY videos, tool introductions, how to adapt tools for users and archive material all filmed and edited through a women’s film making & construction school.
